The POS design was inspired by the iconic Zippo brand, with the flame motif serving as the basis for the design. The goal was to create an eye-catching display using recognizable Zippo colors, such as Saturn black for the plinth, Saturn white for the logo, and Gloss red for the flame. The flame was sprayed with a gloss red to increase its reflectivity and grab the consumer’s attention.
While the concept is spray-painted, mass production would use screen printing to apply colors to vacuum forms. Rare earth magnets were incorporated into the design to safely secure the Zippo to the POS and ensure it remained oriented correctly in relation to the display. A securing cable was also added to prevent theft while still allowing consumers to handle the product.
The high-quality finish, colors, and simplicity of the design are what make it stand out and wear the Zippo name. As Zippo says, “Whether it’s lighting fireworks, firing up the grill, or igniting the campfire… Zippo gets it done.”
